Treat yourself to a break in paradise!

Directions: how to get to Lia Beach?

Lia Beach is located in the Togean archipelago (Central Sulawesi), on Waleakodi island. Waleakodi is the second to last island on the East side of the archipelago.

Above all, take it easy!

You might have heard that access to the Togean Islands is difficult. Well it used to be much worse than it is now! If you read this page carefully, you’ll find out it’s not that complicated.

Here are the 3 important rules:

  1. Allow yourself a bit of patience
  2. Get organized
  3. Remember there’s no such thing as an easy-to-reach paradise.

Paradise needs to be earned!

Ampana airport

The Ampana airport (VPN) opened in April 2015. There’s no direct flight from Makassar to Ampana yet, but Wings Air (Lion Air subsidiary) operates short flights between Luwuk, Palu and Ampana. It can save you the hassle of a time-consuming and tiring road trip to access Ampana.

Besides, since May 26th, 2019, Batik Air (another Lion Air subsidiary) operates a direct flight from Jakarta to Luwuk in 3 hours. So you can spare yourself wasting time in transit and avoid delays.

The airport is located quite close to the town center: it takes about 10 minutes by bentor (local tuk-tuk) to reach Triple R Homestay & Cafe and Nebula Cottages for example.

Note that there is currently no counter selling flight tickets at the Ampana airport (which could have been useful to book your return ticket).

Entrance fee to the Togean Islands National Park

Since December 15th, 2017, every tourist staying on the Togean Islands is required to pay a Rp 150.000 entrance fee at one of these three entrance points:

  • Ampana
  • Wakai (if you arrive on the ferry from Gorontalo)
  • Dolong (if you arrive on the ferry from Bumbulan)

Read the article about the Togean Islands National Park on our blog for more information.

You will also be asked to pay a Rp 50.000 retribution to the Ministry of Tourism, along with the National Park fee.

So, are you ready to do your homework before making your island dream come true? Lets’ go!

Choose your port of entrance

Once you’ve done that, just follow the steps, clicking the “Summary” & “Details” tabs further down this page.

There are 2 main ports of entrance to the Togean Islands: Ampana at the South, Gorontalo/Bumbulan at the North. From both these towns you can reach the Togean Islands by boat.

The choice will depend on your travel itinerary, since these 2 ports serve the Togean Islands on different days.
The way to reach these ports will also depend on your starting point, knowing that there is currently no direct way to access them from major cities outside Sulawesi… That’s one of the reasons why the Togeans remain so authentic!
