A direct flight from Jakarta to Luwuk by Batik Air
Lion Air and its subsidiary Wings Air have been operating daily flights between Palu and Ampana since October 2016. Unfortunately since early 2019, those daily flights are often cancelled last minute due to a lack of passengers.
But the good news is, another of the Lion Air subsidiaries, Batik Air, will be operating a daily direct flight from Jakarta to Luwuk as of May 26th, 2019.
Hey, hey, it seems like access to the Togean Islands is improving again!
Access is always a bit tricky here. And that’s actually what makes the Togean Islands a unique heaven on Earth, away from mass tourism! But a little improvement doesn’t harm anyone, so when airlines start to be interested in our area, it’s quite a relief!
Flying directly from Jakarta to Luwuk: such a time saver!
The new route that Batik Air is to open on May 26th, 2019, a daily direct flight from Jakarta to Luwuk, makes it a bit easier and faster to reach the Togean Islands and Lia Beach.
Luwuk is not the closest city to Ampana, but being able to fly there directly from Jakarta is what makes this new route very interesting and time saving.
Lion Air and its subsidiaries are not so good at being on time, so the less stopovers, the less risks to wait long hours in transit. In 3 hours, you’ll reach Luwuk from Jakarta!
Not mention that by lessening your stopovers, you reduce your carbon footprint too… Cool, right?!

How to go from Luwuk to Lia Beach
A bit of overland transport and a good night sleep first
From Luwuk, charter a car to Ampana (6 hours). Contact us if you want us to help you book a car.
Then spend the night in Ampana. We recommend Triple R Homestay & Cafe for a nice experience with a sweet local family (English spoken), who opened a cute little place with two very clean cabins in a green patio at the back of their house.
Dadang, who runs the place, is a gem and THE guy you want to meet: he’ll give you very valuable tourist information about the region.
Nebula Cottages is also an option.
One (or two) boat ride(s) to the Togeans the next day
There are 2 options for you the next day:
- Every day except Friday, take the public boat (Wamburabura or Manumanu) to Popolii at 9:30 am
- Take the daily speedboat (Hercules) to Wakai at 9 am, and then charter a boat to Lia Beach (3h30). Contact us if you want us to book your speedboat tickets, and a charter boat from Wakai for you.
After this long journey, you’ll be able to take a well-deserved swim in paradise by mid-afternoon 🌴
For more information about access to Lia Beach, check out our Directions page.
Book your flights online on Skyscanner (an international leader in travel), or on NusaTrip or Traveloka which are reliable Indonesian flight search engines allowing payment with a foreign credit/debit card (under certain conditions). For the record, booking on the Lion Air website with a foreign card is nearly impossible.
