Bamboo bungalows: laying the first stone!
Our bamboo bungalows are taking shape. We started the construction work in November 2015 and are pretty happy with the result.
While our bamboo was still soaking in seawater (necessary treatment for construction), we started the foundations, as well as the wooden floor and wood structures for our first 2 bungalows.
Laying the first stone
A team of Togean laborers worked on the reinforced concrete foundations. We spent quite some time among a whole lot of steel bars, cement bags, stones and sand.
Floor and wall structures
Those parts are made from wood.
It was quite a challenge for the local laborers to get the round shape designed by our architect. They say they’re only used to building box-shaped houses, so they got their hair a bit torn out doing something completely new! But they did a great job. Cheers to our construction site manager Ndolo for the good work
