Treat yourself to a break in paradise!

Directions: how to get to Lia Beach?

Lia Beach is located in the Togean archipelago (Central Sulawesi), on Waleakodi island. Waleakodi is the second to last island on the East side of the archipelago.

Above all, take it easy!

You might have heard that access to the Togean Islands is difficult. Well it used to be much worse than it is now! If you read this page carefully, you’ll find out it’s not that complicated.

Here are the 3 important rules:

  1. Allow yourself a bit of patience
  2. Get organized
  3. Remember there’s no such thing as an easy-to-reach paradise.

Paradise needs to be earned!

Flying to Ampana is no longer possible

Lion Air closed the Palu-Ampana route in October 2019, due to a lack of passengers and to excessive fuel price in Central Sulawesi. So your only option now is to fly to Poso or Luwuk, and then charter a car (see the “From Ampana” Details tab below). You can also fly to Gorontalo instead and take one of the two ferries (see the “From Gorontalo” Details tab below).

Furthermore, the direct flight from Jakarta to Luwuk that Batik Air (Lion Air subsidiary) was operating since May 2019, has also been discontinued. So you will have to transit in Makassar (whether you fly to Luwuk or Poso).

The shutting down of these flight routes is not helping your travel plans, and we truly hope they will be reopened at some point (negociations between Lion Air and the region’s local government are in progress).

Entrance fee to the Togean Islands National Park

Since December 2017, every tourist (from the age of 15) staying on the Togean Islands is required to pay a Rp 150.000 entrance fee at one of these three entrance points:

  • Ampana
  • Wakai (if you arrive on the ferry from Gorontalo)
  • Dolong (if you arrive on the ferry from Bumbulan)

Read the article about the Togean Islands National Park on our blog for more information.

You will also be asked to pay a Rp 50.000 retribution to the Ministry of Tourism (from the age of 17), along with the National Park fee.

So, are you ready to do your homework before making your island dream come true? Lets’ go!

Choose your port of entrance

Once you’ve done that, just follow the steps, clicking the “Summary” & “Details” tabs further down this page.

There are 3 main ports of entrance to the Togean Islands: Ampana at the South, Gorontalo and Bumbulan at the North. From these three towns you can reach the Togean Islands by boat.

The choice will depend on your travel itinerary, since these 3 ports serve the Togean Islands on different days.
The way to reach these ports will also depend on your starting point, knowing that there is currently no direct way to access them from major cities outside Sulawesi… That’s one of the reasons why the Togeans remain so authentic!
